Product Review: Cargo ColorStick

These are really nice. So nice, in fact, that I feel they can give the NARS Multiples are real run for the money.

I went to cash in some points at ULTA, and left with the new Cargo ColorStick in St Tropez...
I chose St Tropez because for me, its the most unique of the bunch. It has a distinct peach (not orange) color with a shot of gold. Really summery. I think that it'll work on both warm and cool skin tones because the peach shade is so neutral. I swatched it, and was instantly sold.

One of the things I love about this product is that it'll work fine on oily skin. It's got a creamy texture, but the color sets in about 60 seconds and it doesn't move. I've used it on my bare skin (with just a little mascara and lip gloss) and it has held up beautifully. I think this will be a definite Summer staple.

Illamasqua Skin Base: AU

I wanted to love this.

After falling all over myself over the original Skin Base formula, I was only too eager to try the new 'illuminating' version of the fantastic makeup  base. So I plunked down a few $$ and asked Illamasqua to ship it to me right away.

Like the original Skin Base, AU comes in a standing tube. Same size: 1oz

Because I've experienced that 'less is more' with Skin Base, I used just a tiny bit to swatch...
See how it kind of rubs out like foundation... with no shimmer? When I first saw this I was worried. But somehow, the glitter (it's really  not shimmer... it seems more like glitter), sort of rises to the surface as you blend it out:

See how it looks kind of 'glittery'... especially around the edges of the picture? I feel like this is a product that might need one more pass before it can claim perfection. I don't mind it on the body, but I can see this being an issue for 'highlighting' the face. I was honestly expecting the fabulousness of Skin Base, with maybe the lighting qualities of the Rock & Republic Illuminizer (which I'd pay good money to get my  hands on again).

So for me, the jury is still out... WAY out. I know I'm going to have to do some mixing to keep it from going glitterbomb on the planes of the face.

We'll see.

Giveaway: Summer Basics (CLOSED)

It's time for a new giveaway! I thought I'd pay forward three of the most basic items in my regular maintenance. Meaning, if I only had 5 minutes to get ready, I'd most likely reach for these things. I'll always want my brows done properly, I'll always reach for a highly effective mascara, and I'll always reach for a lip color that I know I can throw on in a dash... and be confident that it'll be flattering.

So here's what I came up with:

ULTA-MATE Brow Kit (Ash Brown) from Anastasia
Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara
Lipstick Queen Jean Queen

Since this picture looks like it was taken by the worst photographer on earth, here are some professional shots of the products:

You guys know the drill. You must be a PUBLIC SUBSCRIBER to qualify. GFC is acting a fool, so I've removed it from the blog... but I can still see everyone on my dashboard. You can gain additional entries by following me on twitter @shahadakarim, and liking Adventures In Makeup on Facebook.

THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED JUNE 25TH

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Glow On: LORAC 3d Lustre (Gold)

You guys remember when I went nuts over the first LORAC 3d Lustre Drops? Well, Carol Shaw did it again... this time in gold:

I was so excited when I saw these drops that I nearly forgot to test them first (what if they sucked?)... and immediately popped a bottle into my basket. Like its predecessor, the golden lustre drops can be used just about anywhere on the face, and offer a distinctly 'golden' highlight. The drops also set in about 20 seconds (I found it did not budge after that time) and a little goes a very long way.

That's one drop.

Look at that! Amazing, right? Just pure gold. I was completely blown away by the opacity of the color and the depth of the golden shimmer. Just gorgeous.

This stuff is fantastic. I love it. I had to take it off with makeup remover... it truly would not move without a little extra cleansing, so I think I'll work very well on this oily skin of mine.

Shahada's Little Helper: Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

I walked into Bloomingdales for Sunday Riley, and walked out with Hourglass. Long story. I blame Stephanie Cooper (Most amazing Space NK Esthetician and all around Fabulous Human Being). Stephanie is not a makeup artist, but she takes a lot of time to learn how to use makeup, and how to find the perfect shortcut.

She found such a shortcut with Hourglass.
Now you guys know that I'm head over heels in love with By Terry Hyaluronic Face Glow... so I was skeptical about what Hourglass could possibly do to impress me. So Stephanie took the most notoriously difficult foundation on Earth (Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer) and sat me down.

Check it out:

If you've never used the Kevyn Aucoin SSE, you should know that it's the thickest, tackiest stuff on the market. It's like Spackle. There's a reason for that (it adheres to the skin for full, flawless coverage), but it's really  not consumer friendly. I'd venture to say it should probably be left to professionals who understand how to apply it, warm it, and spread it evenly. It's thicker than your average concealer, tacky like glue, and a general pain for anyone not willing to take the time to learn to use it.

Now that I've established how impossible SSE is, check out what happens when I mixed it with a dot of primer:

It's instantly emulsified. It literally turns into a 'liquid foundation' -- without losing any of its coverage properties. Normally, if you mix a foundation with a primer or a little lotion to thin it out, it'll get kind of 'sheer' and lose its original coverage and performance properties. Sometimes the properties are boosted, but often they are not.

As you can see, when spread out, you still get a VERY FULL coverage. It spreads very easily and sets almost immediately.

The picture says it all. It's as if I used the SSE alone... spread it out (which takes patience and skill)... and set it with powder.

All I did was mix in a dot of the Hourglass Primer and blend it out with my fingers. So my take is, if it can do THAT to SSE, then I'm sold.

Side benefit: It also makes the foundation fairly sweat-proof and generally water resistant. Yeah.

I used it today with Tom Ford's Traceless Foundation (pictures coming), which is typically on the sheer side. It performed extremely well. I also find that when you mix it like that (one quarter pump of primer), you use a lot less foundation. Your skin will be happy about that.

So Sunday Riley's Cashmere Sunscreen stayed at Space NK (I'll be back... plus I have a ton of samples to tide me over), and Hourglass came home with me instead.

Lip Service: MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural (N43)

I finally gave up trying to resist the amazing orange lipstick that is MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural in N43. It's a creamy opaque color, that looks amazing on my warm skintone:

I used it for an FOTD, and fell in love. The color is REALLY intense, but it works well as long as it's the focal point of the face.

On the rest of my face:

NARS Liberte Blush
Armani Eyes To Kill Silk Eyeshadow in #2 (lashline/under waterline)
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion
